![]() ![]() He was thrilled to learn that I play in a gigging band and his amp will see stage time as a result of the sale. He said it sounds great but he never really learned to use it so someone else should put it to it's intended use. I drove the 40 miles to his place out in the country and bought it for cash on the spot without even plugging it in. #Musicmaster bass amp how to#He bought it to learn to play guitar brand new years ago but never did figure out how to play guitar so it's sat in a closet "for years". Guy calls me back and says it works fine but has sat in the closet pretty much since new. The post was about an hour old and I figured it was probably already gone but what the hell. I hit reply & sent a message simply stating "I'll take it" as well as leaving voice mail on both phone numbers listed in the ad. On a whim, I hit the local CL to see what was posted this morning.ĭay-um!!! A SF Musicmaster Bass amp for $100?! ![]() I took a personal day off to get some things done like hitting the DMV for replacement plates (oh boy), bank stuff and other errands I never seem to have time for. Something like an Electro Voice EVM12L would probably work as well.Īll of the schematics I have found indicate an 8-ohm output tap on the amp.I work 6 days/week every week + play in the band + do some web design work on the side so I don't get a lot of time to myself. I am sure it would easily handle the Musicmasters 12W. So you could try to hunt down a used E120 in good shape with the original cone. Believe it or not, I actually gigged quite a bit with this amp. #Musicmaster bass amp driver#If I pushed the bass control to a higher level, the driver voice coil formers would hit the bottom of the voice coil gap and make a loud clack, which is something you want to avoid. If I kept the bass control at or below 4, I could push the amp pretty much to the edge of breakup. So the pair had a total power rating of 300W RMS. Each of the E120s is rated for 150W RMS and 300W Program. I learned to play on a blackface Fender Twin Reverb, which is also an open back design. If you insist on running open back, then you need a driver that can handle way more power in open air than the amp can produce. You could use it as an extension cab, or build in a mounting sleeve and transplant the head. I will second the ideas of building a proper cab for the amp. That being said it does sound nice when I play my strat through it. Playing it now reconfirmed my opinion it was designed as a lesson practice amp using a guitar speaker. I just played through it with a passive P bass which would have been a bass that amp should have been designed to have played through it. ![]() No, changing to another "better "12" " speaker will not improve the sound all that much as others have alluded to. I had always wondered if Fender removed the high pass filter at some point because that amp sounded much better than mine. That amp had the typical black knobs you would see on Fender amps. I had a student who had a late 70's/early 80's Music Master bass amp and it had a lot of low end. The low end is just not present in the output. When I put this amp up against a wall or close the back off, it does not do that much to the sound. I agree with the others that there is a high pass filter in the tone circuit. It did improve the overall sound and bass response somewhat but not vastly. A long while back I put a 12" Eminence 12447 8 ohm speaker into my 1975/76 Fender Music Master bass amp. ![]()
